March 2011- Teachout Security Solutions began operations as B. K. Teachout Investigations in 1981, offering uniformed security services in the Mid-Michigan area.
The founder of the company, B. K. Teachout, structured the company based on the discipline, accountability and professionalism he learned from his years in law enforcement. The standards he set are still followed throughout the organization today, because of the leadership of the current owner and president, Joseph Cozart.
Teachout hired Mr. Cozart as a security officer at the age of nineteen. Cozart progressed quickly through the ranks to take a position in the company offices. In September of 1995, Cozart purchased the company from Bernie Teachout. At the time, the company had one office on Pierson Road in Flint with 45 to 50 employees.
Today, Teachout Security Solutions has over 600 employees and four offices. The company’s corporate headquarters is located in Flint, with offices in Saginaw, Lansing, and Detroit. Teachout serves national and international customers through a network of over 500 security partners, providing uniformed security officers at facilities worldwide. Teachout’s international approach mirrors their regional philosophy; a combination of custom tailored solutions with small company customer service. Their National Dispatch Center located in Genesee County, is staffed by live support representatives, not an automated attendant system and provides real time reporting to clients. In cases of emergencies, Teachout offers guaranteed four hour response anywhere in the United States and eight hour response internationally. The resulting benefit to their international and national clients is a single source security solution; a “one call does it all” approach to their security needs.
Teachout Security Solutions has proactively pursued various avenues to expand the company despite the challenging economy. To broaden their uniformed security services and expand its capabilities in the Detroit area, as well as domestically and internationally, Teachout acquired Recon Management Group’s Protective Services Division in December 2008. With licenses in other states, the company is actively seeking other acquisition opportunities to broaden its customer base.
Based on its strong background in the healthcare industry, Teachout has established a Healthcare Division in 2011. The division is grounded in 30 years of experience in the security industry and successfully adapting that experience to the unique challenges of protecting healthcare facilities. The detailed healthcare program assures every contingency is considered and all regulatory compliance is met, while offering the flexibility to fit the specific requirements and culture of any organization.
